The start of the school year is a critical time for families and educators, as everyone works to secure the necessary resources and settle into new routines.
That is why Shoprite Botswana introduced its #ColourMeIn competition – a fun, skills‑building initiative designed to spark creativity among children aged 4 to 12 while creating real, tangible benefits for the schools shaping the country’s future.
Between 12 January and 08 February, the competition invited children from across Botswana to colour illustrations of popular grocery items to resemble the original products on Shoprite shelves and to answer the question: “Which is your favourite Shoprite store and why?”
Entries were submitted through dedicated in‑store boxes. By engaging young customers through play and imagination, the campaign generated hundreds of beautifully completed submissions, from which five lucky winners have now been selected.
The #ColourMeIn competition winners were:
- Thomo Bogale (7 years old) from Kgaphamadi Primary School in Ghanzi
- Kalone Modise (10 years old) from Daystar Primary School in Mahalapye
- Percy Kevin Rakolanyana (7 years old) from Palapye Central Primary School, Palapye
- Leatso Poroga (11 years old) from Mogoditshane Adventist Primary School, Gaborone
- Perez Temo Boiditswe from Motalaote Lekhutile Primary School, Serowe
Each winner received P1,000, while their nominated school was awarded P10,000 in Shoprite shopping vouchers to assist with educational needs, feeding programmes or day‑to‑day operations – ensuring the impact of the young learners’ creativity extends well beyond the competition.
“I was doing my usual weekly shopping trip at Shoprite with my father when the Coloring Competition poster on the notice board immediately caught my eye. I was very excited to see products I liked featured in the artwork, and that motivated me to enter. I colored the picture, filled in all the details, and submitted my entry. Finding out that I had been selected as one of the winners was almost unbelievable, but made me incredibly happy.”

Shoprite store managers and regional teams visited the winning schools to officially hand over the vouchers and celebrate the young artists.
The Principal of Motalaote Lekhutile Primary School, Mr Dikabelo Ketshabile, shared: “We are very grateful, as this is our first time winning such a large amount. The funds will help us buy much‑needed stationery for exam periods. Our strong Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) performance ranked us as best among 31 public schools in Serowe sub-region in 2025, and this support serves to motivate us even more.”
This forms part of Shoprite’s ongoing commitment to uplifting the communities it serves, continually investing in initiatives that support hunger-relief, education, entrepreneurship and local development.
