The Top Employers Institute announced Massmart as a Top Employer in South Africa for the second consecutive year, ranking the organisation in the top 25% of participating employers globally.
The program has recognized and certified 2051 participating employers in 121 countries, across 5 continents and being certified as a Top Employer showcases an organisation’s dedication to a better world of work, exhibited through excellent HR policies and people practices. Specifically, Massmart scored most highly under the Top Employer Institute pillars of unite, develop, steer and attract.
Speaking about this year’s awards, Top Employers Institute CEO David Plink said: “Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations. And we have witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Programme this year: exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers 2023. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and well-being of their people. By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work. We are proud to announce and celebrate this year’s group of leading people-oriented employers: the Top Employers 2023.”
After receiving the accolade for the second consecutive year, Chwayita Mareka, Massmart’s Chief People Officer, said, “This is a proud moment for our organisation and it is an honour to yet again be recognized as a Top Employer. As we continue on this journey, we are driven to make Massmart an employer of choice where all employees feel valued and our best talent is retained.
Mareka also remarked on the group’s strong commitment to inclusivity as part of its people priorities. “This is by no means a new focus in our business, however through the appointment of a Vice President for Culture, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in late 2022, we have elevated our internal efforts towards fostering a culture where everyone is – and feels included. We are excited that 2023 will be a year where we truly take our people practices to the next level and raise the bar in the retail industry,” she concluded.
