Shoprite Group loyalty programme takes top retail honour for sixth consecutive year
The Shoprite Group’s Xtra Savings programme has taken home four awards at the South African Loyalty Awards, including Best Retail Loyalty Programme in South Africa for the sixth consecutive year.
Xtra Savings also won Best Loyalty Subscription Programme for Xtra Savings Plus, Best Use of AI to Improve Loyalty Experience, and Best Loyalty Team.
Launched in 2019, Xtra Savings is South Africa’s largest supermarket rewards programme. Over the past year, customers saved R18.3 billion in instant cash savings at Shoprite and Checkers till points.
Xtra Savings Plus, recognised as the Best Loyalty Subscription Programme, is South Africa’s first grocery subscription service designed to ensure customers save more than they pay or receive their money back. For R99 a month, members receive benefits including unlimited Sixty60 deliveries, and personalised discounts.
The Best Use of AI award recognised the Checkers Dinner Done Better campaign, which combined customer insights and AI to match personalised Jamie Oliver recipes with relevant products. Customers could order the ingredients through Sixty60 for delivery in under 60 minutes. The campaign drove double-digit growth in engagement without discounting, demonstrating the value of relevance in loyalty.
“In a country where every rand matters, we never take our customers’ trust for granted. Our Xtra Savings mission is simple: help our customers save time and money where it matters most. Since launching Xtra Savings, one thing has remained unchanged: our commitment to proving our loyalty to customers, not the other way around.”
