SPAR Zimbabwe Campaign Supports Children

Customers truly embraced the spirit of SPAR’s Stuffed with Love campaign which ended on 31 March. Shoppers and local institutions were encouraged to donate items and toys for children in need. This netted many more donations than the retailer had anticipated, with great diversity of items being collected. SPAR Zimbabwe has a multi-pillar responsible retailing approach and issues involving children are at the forefront of their strategy.

Exceeding targets

The initial target of 1,500 toys was greatly surpassed by the volume of stuffed toys, toys, books, puzzles, and clothes that were donated by customers, supplier partners, schools, and local communities. As always, SPAR Zimbabwe was humbled by the generosity and kindness of the community.

The first handover of donations from the SPAR Stuffed With Love Campaign was made to Kidzcan.  Daniel Mckenzie, the Director, accepted the toys on behalf of the children living at the Rainbow Children`s Village whilst undergoing their treatment in Oncology wards.

The next donation was made to a longstanding charity partner, Childline Zimbabwe, which will distribute the goods to all of their drop-in centres around the country. The final two donations were made to the children’s oncology wards at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo and Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.

Better Together

“This was a fantastic campaign – we are simply delighted with the overwhelming generosity shown by the community.  A little bit goes a long way”, said Cypren Borerwe, General Manager of SPAR Zimbabwe. “We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the SPAR Stuffed With Love campaign – our customers, suppliers, local community groups, and five participating schools.  As we like to say at SPAR, we are always Better Together!”
