The Cape Town-based coffee chain will roll out fully staffed concession stores across selected sites within the convenience chain in South Africa.
Vida e Caffè has unveiled a new partnership to open cafès within SPAR convenience stores in South Africa.
Founded in Cape Town in 2001, Vida e Caffè is South Africa’s largest branded coffee chain, with 300 stores. In a press release, the premium operator said partnering with SPAR would enable it to cater to a wider range of customers and expand within South Africa’s ‘dynamic and fast-moving’ consumer-goods retail segment.
The sites will be fully staffed and will comprise both cafès with seating and to-go counters.
The roll out has already begun with cafès at three SPAR stores in Cape Town and two further sites in Johannesburg. Further expansion across the convenience store chain will continue throughout 2025.
“Partnering with SPAR allows us to bring the Vida e Caffè experience to more communities across South Africa. Together, we’re raising the bar again for convenient, quality coffee that fits seamlessly into our customers’ busy lives,” said Darren Levy, CEO, Vida e Caffè.
SPAR operates a number of Bean Tree cafès across its estate, serving barista-prepared Lavazza coffee. Vida e Caffè will replace some Bean Tree sites across SPAR’s network, but not all.
“Strategic partnerships are critical for future growth and our partnership with Vida e Caffè allows us to expand our reach and offer our customers more. SPAR is now able to meet the demands of various coffee consumers across its network through its own solution as well as Vida e Caffè,” added Ed von Gericke, National Retail Operations Executive, SPAR South Africa.
Vida e Caffè also operates 40 stores across Ghana, Mauritius, Zambia, Eswatini, Botswana and Angola. In September 2023, Vida e Caffè outlined plans to reach 500 stores across Africa and the Middle East by 2028, including expansion to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
