Finding permanent, loving homes remains a major challenge for dog rescue organisations in South Africa. Oscars Arc addresses this through its WOOF Project, creating pop-up adoption spaces at the V&A Waterfront and Constantia Village Shopping Centre in Cape Town to improve the chances of dogs being seen and adopted.
South Africa’s fastest growing pet retailer, Petshop Science, has stepped in to help cover the cost of food for dogs in Oscars Arc’s care, ensuring they receive consistent, nutritious meals while they await their forever families.
To help ease the initial adjustment period, Petshop Science will also provide every new dog parent at these pop-ups with a complimentary bag of its veterinary approved premium private-label dry dog food.
“The team at Oscars Arc are true heroes – caring for and rehoming dogs, often with limited resources. Being able to support their work with quality, nutritious food is a natural fit for us. It’s a practical way to support the important work they do every day to help more dogs find their way to caring households.”
– Trevor Paxton, General Manager for Petshop Science
“It is rare to align with a brand so genuinely committed to giving back. We are deeply grateful to have Petshop Science alongside us. By providing nutritious, high-quality food for the shelter dogs in our care, they are not only meeting a fundamental need, but actively improving the health, wellbeing, and adoptability of each dog.”
– Joanne Lefson, Director of Oscars Arc
This forms part of Petshop Science’s broader commitment to animal welfare, with R3.3 million worth of pet food and accessories donated to 35 organisations across South Africa in the past financial year.
Launched in 2021, Petshop Science has grown to 174 stores across all nine provinces, offering accessible, specialist pet care to communities nationwide. Through its partnership with Sixty60, customers can access same-day delivery in scheduled 60-minute time slots – from large bags of dog food to everyday essentials, delivered exactly when they’re needed.
