Nestlé Ranked First in the Global Access to Nutrition Index 2021

Nestlé ranked first in the Global Access to Nutrition Index 2021 by achieving 6.7 out of 10 score, as released by the Access to Nutrition Initiative (ATNI).

The Index assesses, after every three years, the world’s largest global food and beverage manufactures and the contributions to addressing malnutrition. Nestlé also ranked number one position from the last Global Access to Nutrition Index 2018.

According to ATNI, Nestlé demonstrated the most comprehensive nutrition strategies, management systems and reporting among the companies assessed. The report commended Nestlé as one of three companies that have conducted a strategic review in the last three years on commercial opportunities available to address the specific needs of people experiencing, or at high risk of, any form of malnutrition.

When it came to accessibility and affordability of healthy products, Nestlé was one of the companies that had the most comprehensive approaches to pricing and distribution, including products designed to address micronutrient deficiencies.

“We are pleased to be recognised as one of the leaders in health and nutrition who are addressing the pressing issues of malnutrition. As Nestlé, particularly in our East and Southern Africa region where we are still experiencing triple burden of challenges: obesity, micronutrient deficiencies and undernutrition; we will continue to leverage our industry- leading innovations to promote health and wellness through our food portfolio,” says Saint- Francis Tohlang, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Director at Nestlé East and Southern Africa Region (ESAR).

In the labelling category, Nestlé’s was commended for being the only company that continues to use nutrition and health labelling and claims in countries where local or national regulations are less strict than the Codex Alimentarius Guidelines.

“The recognition of Nestlé’s labelling as one of the best practices shows our commitment to demonstrate to consumers what’s in our products and provide guidance on the ideal serving size. By using Guideline Daily Amounts and our unique Nestlé Nutritional Compass tool, consumers have access to accurate nutritional information,” added Tohlang.
