Jumia Cameroon Update

Jumia is on a mission to provide Africa’s most trusted and essential digital infrastructure to ensure business owners meet the needs of their local and international consumers. As the Company continues its investment and innovation in its African operations, it continues to review its path to success to ensure the Company achieves this mission.

The company concluded that its transactional portal is not suitable for the current environment in Cameroon. Therefore, Jumia took the difficult decision to suspend its e-commerce operations in Cameroon effective on 18th November. It is more important now than ever to put our focus and resources where they can bring the best value and help us thrive.

Jumia Co-Founders Sacha Poignonnec and Jeremy Hodara said: “Jumia is grateful to its employees in Cameroon for the hard work over the past five years and we know that Cameroon is not short of talent. The team has fought to change the way business is done and with the support of its employees, the company has proven to be the leading eCommerce in the region. This would not be possible without the combined efforts, great contribution and dedication of our Jumia Cameroon team.“

Jumia will continue to support buyers and vendors to do business online on our classifieds portal, previously called Jumia Deals and which will now be the main portal jumia.cm. Thousands of buyers and vendors use this portal every month and it will continue to become more relevant in the future.
