We are proud to share the 2022 Shoprite Holdings Integrated Report and Sustainability Report.
From employee training and small supplier development, to donating millions in surplus food and goods and reducing our carbon emission intensity – our purpose is to uplift lives every day.
In the past financial year:
- the Group invested R600 million in employee training and development;
- established the Shoprite Employee Trust, an evergreen B-BBEE employee benefit trust, paying qualifying employees a financial distribution aligned with the dividend declared to the Group’s shareholders;
- more than 10% of supplier spend was directed to black businesses and Shoprite Next Capital, a business division dedicated to capacitate and grow commercially-viable SMMEs, was launched to further the Group’s continued efforts to give small suppliers access to its consumer market.;
- R335 million was invested in the communities in which we operate. We donated R157 million in surplus food and goods, served more than 5.2 million hot meals through our Mobile Soup Kitchens and invested R145 million in training and educational programmes for unemployed youth;
- and the installed capacity of our solar photovoltaic (PV) systems has been increased by 82%, easing pressure on the national electricity grid.
These are some of the highlights contained in our 2022 Integrated Report and Sustainability Report which outline the Group’s efforts to create value for the business, its customers and its people over the past financial year, as well as stipulate its future targets.
