Checkers has opened the doors to its new Palm Boulevard store at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga. 

The store expands the retailer’s presence in the Umhlanga area and employs a team of 408 people that includes 150 new employment opportunities for people from surrounding communities. 

From freshly prepared sushi and barista-made coffee to pistachio iced lattes and waffle sticks, Checkers Palm Boulevard offers a broad fresh food selection that caters to both everyday convenience and more indulgent tastes. There’s also a focus on familiar, well-loved flavours such as authentic tandoori chicken, shawarma and tikka. 

This sits alongside a range of specialist in-store departments, including a meat market, fish shop, hot & cold foods deli, bakery, fresh fruit & vegetables section, and a licensed wine section – delivering quality products and ensuring an effortless shopping experience.

A Money Market counter is also available, providing access to a range of everyday financial services, including money transfers, bill payments, Computicket bookings, grocery vouchers and airtime top-ups.

Checkers Palm Boulevard is managed by Darren Uren, who joined the retailer in June 2016 and most recently held a management position at Checkers Cascades in Pietermaritzburg.

The store trades daily from 08:00 to 20:00.
