Wincor Nixdorf equips IKEA with IT

IKEA Group and Wincor Nixdorf conclude iPOS project

Approximately 14,000 BEETLE POS systems – 2,700 more than originally planned – were installed by Wincor Nixdorf in 330 IKEA Group stores in 28 countries as part of a big retail project. The entire rollout took just two years and three months, an average of 16 POS systems every day, without missing a single day – and without any detriment to quality owing to the speed of the installation.

In addition to the POS systems themselves, Wincor Nixdorf is providing product-related services, managed services, cash management from the checkout zone to the back office, TP.net software, and related professional services. Furthermore, express checkout systems from Wincor Nixdorf are integrated in the checkout lines at all the stores so that customers can scan their own purchases and pay by card, if they desire. Wincor Nixdorf’s full-service package for IKEA Group also includes planning, preparation, integration testing, installation, operation and the help desk.

All the POS processes are controlled via TP.net and the resulting data is consolidated across the Group. The software platform was standardized across all the stores. The inevitable country-specific adjustments were made on the basis of a uniform platform so that necessary software updates can be carried out especially quickly and easily. Wincor Nixdorf keeps track of all system states online (remote monitoring) and identifies possible sources of error very early, which results in significant improvements to system availability.

According to Wincor Nixdorf project and account manager Achim Schlangenotto, one thing was decisive for the success of the project: the commitment and passion of all the members of the Wincor Nixdorf project team: “Naturally we have the expertise here at the company. What matters is delivering it to the customer.”
